Who We Are
Fellowship - We desire to live up to our name. We are believers in Jesus Christ who have committed together to pursue holiness and effective service until Christ returns. We lift each other up in prayer, encourage one another, and watch out for each others' needs and weaknesses. We are united in purpose and share a blessed camaraderie; a fellowship.
Baptist - We are an independent Baptist congregation partnering with a global network of like-minded churches called the GARBC. You can read their doctrinal statement here. Do you have more questions about our organization and beliefs? When you visit, request a free copy of our Covenant, Articles of Faith, and Constitution.
Church- We are convinced that God’s plan for the world today is His church. God’s plan for you today is active involvement in a local, Christ-exalting congregation. Will you join us?
Meet Our Pastor
Hello, my name is Dan Vance. God has blessed my wife and me with two wonderful, high-energy sons. I grew up on a southern Iowa farm and moved to Des Moines to study at Faith Baptist Theological Seminary. After graduating in 2017, I became the pastor of Fellowship Baptist church. I couldn’t be more excited about what God is doing here in our community.
My vision is to see our church continue to grow in depth of love for Christ and our neighbors. I am passionate about helping people connect the text of God's Word to their daily lives through thoughtful, expositional preaching. I like to relax by playing soccer and basketball, drinking banana smoothies, and playing with my kids. Now that you know more about me, I would love to meet you!
Frequently Asked Questions
What is it like to be a guest?
We know that being new is hard. We don't give name-tags, call attention to you, or ask you to say anything. We want you to feel at home and we will even give you a thank-you gift on your way out!
What happens during a service?
Our Sunday Morning worship service is the time when we put away the distractions of the week and take about an hour and a half to focus on spiritual matters. The atmosphere is friendly and joyous. Prayers, quiet meditation, Scripture reading, and singing are a part of every service.
The Sermon lasts 30-40 minutes and is “expository” in nature. That means the speaker will preach from a section of God’s Word by clearly explaining its meaning, offering clear and practical application, and calling for change in response to the glory of God. You can listen to a past sermon here.
This service is a more casual meeting of the church family to sing favorite hymns and hear a practical lesson from the Bible.
Wednesday Growth Groups
7:00 - 8:15 pm (in homes throughout the city)
Growth Groups meet for prayer, friendship, and mutual support. We would love to connect you to one of our groups where you can engage in discipleship on a personal level (childcare provided).
What is the music like?
The Bible describes singing as a way to worship God and build one another up. Our congregations sings
a mix of new and old, hymns and choruses. We believe you will be encouraged!
Should I bring a Bible?
Our activities and events are centered around God’s Word, so you’ll be greatly helped by having a copy of Scripture. Bring any Bible you already have, or if you don’t have a Bible, we are happy to give you a copy for for free! We have Bibles (NKJV) stored in each pew for you to use any time you attend.
What About Children?
Sunday - Young children (through age 5) can be cared for by our attentive staff during all Sunday services so that parents can give full attention to the meaningful content. While you worship, your children will play and learn in a safe and fun environment.
Wednesday - A Growth Group for families meets at the church at 6:15 pm. We enjoy a snack, shared worship, and then each age group breaks up for a time of personal discipleship and prayer (the children's group is managed by trained volunteers).
What Should I Wear?
Fellowship includes people from different walks of life and various types of dress; wear whatever you would like and you will not feel out of place.
What about Money?
It costs nothing to attend our church. We take an offering during our Sunday Services to allow our members to contribute to God's Work. We encourage visitors to simply enjoy the music that is played during this portion of the service.
